Andrea Fagan: Kin

Andrea Fagan’s recent solo exhibition, Kin, invited viewers into a contemplative exploration of community, belonging, and the subtle relationships that inform daily life. Presented from the 14th to 24th May, the exhibition transformed the gallery into a site of intimacy and resonance, where understated gestures and shared narratives quietly unfolded.

The artist, Andrea Fagan, at the opening of her exhibition, Kin.

Through an array of intimate paintings, Fagan examined the nuances of recognition, support, and human connection. Her canvases, whether portraying familial bonds, friendships, neighbours, or transient encounters, are imbued with a quiet tenderness that lingers in the memory. Kin underscored the significance of the everyday, revealing that the profound often resides within the understated rhythms of ordinary life.

Born in Tottenham and now living and working in Liverpool, Fagan is a self-taught artist whose practice negotiates the interplay between impressionistic softness and moments of vivid realism. She was shortlisted in the John Moores Painting Prize and continues to create works that possess an immediacy and sincerity, shaped by lived experience and attentive observation of those around her. This sense of authenticity permeated the exhibition, inviting viewers to discern echoes of their own histories within the work.

The private view on the 14th of May established an atmosphere of openness and dialogue, setting the stage for an exhibition rooted in shared experience and human connection. Throughout the exhibition, audiences were drawn to the emotional resonance of the paintings—works that, while deeply personal, articulated a universal sensibility.

Although Kin has concluded, the dialogues it initiated persist beyond the gallery. A selection of prints from the exhibition remains available, allowing visitors to engage with these meditations on connection in their own environments. Whether experienced in the gallery or lived with at home, these paintings continue to invite moments of recognition, comfort, and reflection, an enduring reminder of the people and communities that shape who we are.
